For a business, having a well respected and well read blog can bring online marketing success that you may not have thought possible. Getting traffic coming to your blog can bring more traffic to your website, help build a strong brand following, and solidify your place in your field. However, getting to the point where you have a well respected and well read blog isn’t always easy. So to help you reach this milestone faster, here are three tips for getting more of your website visitors to read your blogs and begin snowballing your blogging efforts.
Create a Strategy and Work It
If you don’t already have a blogging strategy put into place, this is a great place to start. While simply throwing a blog up every once in awhile can be more effective than never blogging, creating a clear and well thought out blog strategy will be the best way for you to make the most of your individual blogs.
Megan Marrs, a contributor to WordStream.com, recommends for businesses to try to create a content strategy that falls into one of two categories: cool and funny or educational and informative. Once you’ve nailed this down, try coming up with content topic ideas that your target audience will like and want to read. For example, if you are in the footwear industry, you may choose a content strategy based around famous shoes to be funny or cool while you could also strategize around health benefits of certain shoes to be informative and educational. Pick what you think will work best with your company’s strengths and go with that.
Leverage Your Website and Other Content
Another great way to get more people who are already on your website to come over to your blog is to leverage that content to the best of your ability. One easy way to do this is to come up with a solid internal linking structure that will make it fast and simple for visitors to move between content pieces.
When dealing with internal links, Neil Patel, a contributor to KISSmetrics.com, gives seven rules for internal linking success. Some of these rules include using good anchor text, linking to deep content rather than shallow content, having the proper placement and amount of links and more. By following these rules, you should be able to come up with your own internal linking strategy that will help move people through your site to your blog easier.
Write Content People Want to Read
It’s relatively easy to get someone to a specific page of your website or blog if you’ve set everything up correctly. However, it’s much more difficult to entice them to come back time and time again. To accomplish this, you have to give them something that will make them crave more.
One way to do this is to write content that people will actually want to read. Kim George, a contributor to Small-Bizsense.com, suggests for business bloggers to write compelling content in one of five forms in order to attract a large amount of people. These blog forms include how to articles, listicles, reference guides and more. By writing this type of content, you can appeal to the massive amounts of people who find these types of articles interesting and entertaining.
While getting more visitors to read your blog will be most effective if you’re able to understand your audience and how they interact with you currently, using the tips mentioned above will be a great jumping off point for many businesses interested in getting more blog engagement.
